Dave Phelps - Magnolia 7th-8th Grade Technology Teacher
Dave Phelps has been teaching technology at Magnolia since 1978. Imagine the tremendous changes in technology he has seen over the past 3 decades! Mr. Phelps currently teaches the 7th-8th grade Computer Technology elective class for 2 periods a day in the Diamond Back Den. In addition to teaching fundamental computer skills, he is introducing students to video editing and DVD production using iMovie and IDVD.
Computer Technology
This course will teach students how to create DVD's using iMovie and iDVD. Students will learn how to edit film, create titles, transitions, use audio and video special effects, and create DVD labels. A minimum of 2 DVD's will be created during this trimester class. Also included in this course will be Powerpoint, Google Earth, and Web Page design projects. Finally all students will be able to refresh the basic computer skills with a variety of wordprocessing and spreadsheet projects.
Jim Richards- Magnolia 7th-8th Grade Technology Teacher
During the past 25 years Jim Richards has been creating new opportunities for learning through the use of technology. Supported by research studies with the iMET program at California State University, Sacramento, Mr. Richards's innovative applications and methods have been proven effective. From award-winning multimedia and video production to graphic arts and web design, Mr. Richards mission is to challenge students and teachers to explore curriculum through technology.
Mr. Richards has been a leader in the developmet of curriculum integrated with technology. Mr. Richards teaches Graphic Design with Photoshop and Web Design with Dreamweaver.
Graphics and the Web: The timeless art of creating graphic displays has become very accessible through the use of computer graphics programs. Students take advantage of state of the art computers, made available by the community through our parent/teacher club, to create wonderfully artistic and useful graphic arts for display at home and on the web. Students will be maintaining the award winning Teachers' Web Site by creating their own magic using: Adobe Photoshop Elements, Dreamweaver, iMovie, PowerPoint, Hyperstudio, and Word. This elective class is for Eighth Grade students only.
Phil Richardson - Magnolia 7th-8th Grade Music-Technology Teacher
Phil Richardson is Magnolia's band teacher and one of the resident technology experts. His love of music has led him to the computer as a tool for musicians with the multimedia capabilties. He is responsible for the creation and constant development of Tunes and Technology, an elective where the students spend most of their time in the computer lab creating mulitmedia musical projects.
Tunes and Technology
Students explore the history of rock and roll, write their own composition, and learn about various instruments. Computer lab time is an integral part of the curriculum as students explore the use of technology in music. Although students will not learn an instrument, they are given the opportunity to express their musical talents in creative and exciting ways.
